Overview
From the history of shark finning to the effects of it today, this is the place for a general overview and current updates on the issue. Shark finning, the removal of shark fins and the disposal of shark bodies back into the ocean, is an important issue as it is concerned with the interaction of the biosphere and the anthrosphere. The point where the biosphere, all living organisms inhabited parts of the Earth, and the anthrosphere, all human affected parts of the Earth, intersect with each other is the crucial part as both spheres shape each other. This blog explores the relationship between the two spheres through shark finning as it is a prime example illustrated by its serious effects on both the sharks and the people. In addition to the exploration of earth system science via the issue of shark fin soup, this blog also explores the evolution and paleoecology of sharks to contribute to a better understanding of the issue overall.
